Wedding bands today come in a wide variety of styles and, in addition to the traditional plain gold band, you can now choose rings that are made from a variety of metals including titanium and tungsten, plain or engraved and with or without inlays of gold. Rings can also be selected with a variety of inset stones including the ever popular diamond but also extending to such things as sapphires and pearls.
This wide variety may make it seem easier to find a unique pair of rings but the vast majority of rings are purchased through one of the many jewelry chains and so you can bet your bottom dollar that many people will be looking at the same selection of rings from which you are choosing. One solution is of course to purchase your rings from a single jewelry outlet in which each ring, or pair of rings, is individually crafted but, for most people, this is prohibitively expensive.
One solution to obtaining unique wedding bands is to add your own very personal inscription to the rings that you choose.
Adding inscriptions to wedding rings is not a new idea and many couples will have their rings inscribed with their initials and the date of their wedding. However, an increasingly common custom is for the couple to choose a personal inscription for their partner’s ring, which is often not revealed until the day of the wedding.
Exactly what you have inscribed is of course very much a matter of personal choice and your only real limitation is the space available. There are however a few things that you should bear in mind.
Whatever message you have inscribed must speak directly to your partner and will stay with them for as long as they wear their wedding ring. Your message should therefore be enduring. You might like to use something that it special to the two of you, such as pet names that you have for each other, but should avoid anything that might prove embarrassing to your partner.
If you are at a loss for words them don’t try to be clever, but stick to something like “To The Love Of My Life” or “To My Darling Wife/Husband”. Alternatively, you might like to choose a phrase from scripture or a favorite hymn, both of which have already stood the test of time.
Personalizing your wedding rings with an inscription will not only provide you with unique wedding rings, but will also add that little something special to your wedding ceremony which you will be able to carry with you through your marriage.
